Method #1:  The following codes will allow you to type French accented letters in any program.

To get the letter, hold down the "Alt" key and type in the code using the number pad.
 
 

Method #2:  Only for use with Internet Explorer there is the on-line text editor website for typing French characters.  You can use it to type and then cut and paste what you've typed into your document.  (Courtesy of Tomasz P. Szynalski)
