Homework .gif)
Your child will receive a homework assignment sheet on the
first school day of the week. Homework will be assigned Monday through
Thursday. Homework usually consists of a math, spelling and
vocabulary assignment. Daily reading of at least 15 minutes is required.
A reading contract will be included with the homework assignment sheet,
and is to be turned in weekly. I strongly encourage you to read with
your child or as a family.
The Accelerated Reader program is used at
the Ray School. Students choose books from the Accelerated Reader
list, read them, and then take a comprehension test in the computer lab.
Books both in the Ray library and in Room 114 marked with red dots are
on this list. To view this list, please click on My
Favorite Links.

Money Sent to School

Please put any money sent to school
in an envelope clearly marked as follows:
Child's name
Room number
Amount in envelope
What money is for (lunch, field trip, etc.)
Exact lunch money must be
sent. You may send lunch money for the week. Please indicate
on the envelope you are doing so. Time spent making or getting change
is valuable time away from learning.
Extra money should not be brought to school.
I do not allow students to purchase sweets at lunchtime. Please
send enough lunch for your child. The school lunch is quite adequate.

Birthdays
Birthdays are special days that
we like to recognize at school. You are welcome to send a snack.
Please consider something that can be easily passed out. If your
child has a summer birthday, and you would like to celebrate at school,
a half-year or end-of-year celebration can be arranged. Let us know
what you choose to do so that we can plan time in our schedule. Please
do not send invitations to school to be passed out. This causes many
hurt feelings when children are excluded. Your understanding is appreciated.
Birthday children are encouraged
to choose and donate an Accelerated Reader book, new or used, on their
birthday. We will read the book together and then put your child's
name and photo in the book. Your child will be seen each time the
book is read--thereby leaving a small legacy to the second grade by adding
to our collection of Accelerated Reader books. Participation is optional,
of course.

folder to and from school each day. Any school related information
will be in this folder as well as your child's homework assignments.

at the end of each quarter. Mid-term reports are sent mid-quarter.
The school district has arranged for two formal parent conferences each
year for the first and third reporting periods.
I will contact your immediately
if there are serious concerns about behavior or academic progress.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call me.
If I am unavailable, leave or write a message and I will contact you as
soon as possible.
