February 2008/March 2008 - College trips are part of the GEAR UP experience for families. This year a trip for freshmen students and their parents on a UIC College Trip includes tickets to a UIC Flames game. Participating in the workshop, Street Smarts is a way to keep students safe from gangs. |

August 2008/ September 2008 - Roosevelt University GEAR UP students and their families participated in kickoff activities for Science Chicago, a year long initiative to create a greater awareness of the sciences and science careers.
June 2008/July 2008 - Roosevelt University through GEAR UP sponsors Freshman Connection at Hyde park Academy and John Hope College Preparatory High School. The summer program is designed to help students make a successful transition to high school.
April 2008/May 2008 - Students go on college trips with their peers. Visits to Roosevelt University help students prepare for college. While back at school, students learn about the Career Ladder and Conflict Resolution.
October 2008/ November 2008 - Parents at John Hope College Preparatory High School talk with parent partner, Darlette Willis at the GEAR UP Meet and Greet. Later in the week, Hope and Hyde Park Academy families go on a double decker bus tour of downtown Chicago.

December 2007/January 2008 -. Carnegie students participate in a School Shadowing Day at Hyde Park Academy. Hyde Park Academy students practice learning the social skills they will need to be successful in college by participating in a Western Dance Night.
October/November 2007 -. Students are busy gaining the skills, knowledge and experience they'll need to help them reach GEAR UP goals. Hope students participate in Adventure Ed while Carnegie students learn about careers at Haunted Trails.
September 2007 -. Parents and kids participate in the Back to School Rally at Cellular Field.
June 2007 - Welcome to Roosevelt University's GEAR UP Summer Academy where 8th grade students prepare for their final year of school .Incoming freshman at Hyde Park Academy learn strategies that will help them transition successfully into high school.
April 2007 - What are some of the issues that students will face in their futures? As part of a GEAR UP professional development track, Mr. Ziencina, at Emmett Till, has developed a unit on Global Warming. Ms. Wade has a unit on Cloning.
March 2007 - GEAR UP parents were both presenters and participants at this year's Parent Leadership Conference. Pat Tatum, conducts a workshop on Transitions to High School.
January 2007 - GEAR UP students create a video about the Carnegie Elementary Career Day with the help of their instructor and a GEAR UP coach.
December 2006 - GEAR UP college students share their experiences with GEAR UP families at the University of Chicago Family Holiday Celebration.
November 2006 - GEAR UP parents from across the Chicago network come together for Literature Alive, a full day conference on reading. Find out more.
October 2006 - The Young Adult Literature Conference offers teachers answers to questions about how to teach reading more effectively in their classrooms. Roosevelt University teachers participated in the 2 day conference.
September 2006 - Seventh and eighth grade students met with GEAR UP staff for a kick off assembly. The purpose - to acquaint students with GEAR UP goals and objectives and let kids know some of the activities that will be available to them this school year. Find out more.
