Renew the creative spirit that is at the heart of your teaching.
We believe that when teachers gain positive, first-hand experiences of writing and reading, they bring passion and understanding back to their students.  They approach the next literacy mandate with common sense and poise.  Come to explore the dynamic connections between your own writer’s process and approaches for teaching writing across the curriculum
.

Join adult peers to connect to your writing self.  You will explore content that is engaging to adults while you participate in writing activities, word games, oral telling, reading from models of fiction, creative nonfiction, and poetry, and hearing your fellow writers’ work.  Earn 3 CPDU’s.

We’ll focus on Keeping it Moving, looking at ways to keep your writing in motion, options for structure that elicit strong, clear meaning, and ways to heighten and expand your ideas on the page. We will also continue the conversations about teaching writing that we started with those of you who attended in November.
Do you have some writing in process?  A journal entry that you are interested in expanding?  An idea that just won’t quit?  Bring it.  We’ll keep your writing in motion.
Are you getting tired of reading skimpy student drafts?  Are your students being stingy on the page?  Do they declare themselves “done” after writing three lines?  What to do?  We will look at ways to keep your students’ writing moving.

Sessions will be facilitated by Becca Manery, Polly Mills, and Germania Solórzano, Professional Development Specialists, Chicago Teachers’ Center, Northeastern Illinois University.  Free parking is available in the lot across the street on Chicago Avenue.  Lunch will be served.
