December 2007/January 2008- Teachers participate in the Amazing Algebra Conference.

  October/November 2007 - The The Young Adult Literature Conference gives high school and middle school teachers an opportunity to read, discuss, and participate in workshops structured around quality fiction and nonfiction texts. September 2007 - Students and teachers are back to school and Chicago GEAR UP is working to create opportunities to support the 8th to 9th grade transition.

  August 2007 -Incoming freshman participate in GEAR UP Summer Transition Programs. Students brush up on academic skills while learning what it's like to be in high school.
 

July 2007 - Chicago GEAR UP is pleased to recognize Darlette Willis as one of the winners of the first 2007 GEAR UP Parent Leadership Awards. The award recognizes those parents who have made a significant contribution to their community through GEAR UP.

  June 2007 - The first group of GEAR UP 8th graders have graduated from 8th grade and are on their way to high school. Congratulations to the GEAR UP students, their teachers, parents, and community members who have helped them along the way.
 

May 2007 - This year's Inquiry and Design Institute theme is all about community.

  April 2007 - Parents participate in the annual Parent Leadership Conference . This year's theme: Transitions: Making High School Real.
 

March 2007 - Teachers find resources and tools for teaching at the March YAL Conference. Find out more about the workshops offered at the March conference.

  February 2007 - Plans are under way for the transition from 8th to 9th grade for GEAR UP students.
 

January 2007 - Building on the strengths of the Young Adult Literature Conference, GEAR UP has organized the first annual Math: The Great Equalizer conference to help teachers find ways to teach math more effectively. Find out more details about the upcoming conference.

  December 2006 - Professional development is an important part of the GEAR UP program. Providing high quality, meaningful professional development is of the most effective ways of reaching students. Check out the types of professional development available to GEAR UP teachers.
 

November 2006 - At the Literature Alive Conference parents come together to discuss books, reading and ideas for getting their own kids hooked on reading. Workshops are led by parents.

  October 2006 - It's time again for the Young Adult Literature Conference Teachers participate in an intensive weekend workshop learning how to teach reading, writing and other language arts skills.
 

September 2006 - Classroom Managment is essentail when teading Guided Reading. See how one instructor addressed the issue with the assistance of a GEAR UP coach.

  August 2006 - GEAR UP Summer Academies are an important way for students to get a real understanding of the college experience.
