| What is the GEAR UP Transition to High School Program? |
This is a free 4-week opportunity for incoming 9th graders into GEAR UP high schools to participate in a summer program that will provide academic enrichment and high school success activities.

How do students sign up for the GEAR UP Transition to High School Program? |
Talk to your current school counselor and fill out the summer application.

| What will students be doing during the Transition program? |
During the mornings, students will participate in academic enrichment activities in both reading and math. They'll spend time reading a book together that examines the lives of young people who have made differences in their communities, followed with work on projects that they think will change their own communities. Students will also participate in high school success activities. During the afternoon program (which takes place two days per week), students will focus on college/career planning and activities leading to high school success. Field trips, such as college tours, will be taken to support the ideas learned.

| Who will be with the students each day? |
At each school site, students will be taught and supported by a CPS math and English teacher, a high school counselor, college tutors, a Postsecondary Coach, parent advocates, and GEAR UP staff.

| When does the program take place? |
The program runs from June 30 - July 25, 2008. You should contact your elementary school counselor or high school for the specific dates and times.

| Is food provided? |
Yes, students are provided lunch by Chicago Public Schools.
|
| Will students have to wear uniforms? |
Students will have to follow the rules of their high school.
|
| What is required of the parents? |
There are no requirements of parents. However, parents will be invited to attend activities at the high school that will help support them and their children.

| Is there a cost to the program ? |
No, it is free.
