Workshop Description |
|||
Which characteristics help us survive the many borders we must cross in our lifetimes? Crossing from childhood into young adulthood is often challenging. This thematic unit will use four young adult novels (Ask Me No Questions by Marina Budhos, Call Me Maria by Judith Ortiz Cofer, La Línea by Ann Jaramillo, and From the Notebooks of Melanin Sun by Jacqueline Woodson) to examine the characteristics young people display as they learn to overcome obstacles. As adults, we like to read, then talk about the great book we just finished. Literature Circles are a way to help students enter this adult realm. They can regain or obtain an enjoyment for reading through discussion with their classmates. Please join me as we examine crossing personal borders through the use of Literature Circles. |
