Highlight
Winter 2003
-- Putting together a call-in TV show can be a challenge, but GEAR
UP parents make the job look easy. Starting their second season
of Parent to Parent, Darlette Willis, host, and Bernie Sutton,
CO-producer, arrive early at the studio to go over the script.
Darlene Pearlstein,
Parent Coordinator gives last minute reminders before the show.
"I'm really here more as a coach at this point. Soon they'll
be able to produce these shows on their own."
Parent to
Parent is off to a great start. Wednesday night was the kick
off for the winter CAN TV show. Joining Darlette on the first show
was Patricia Tatum, Woodlawn GEAR UP's first college graduate. Patricia
joined Darlette and callers in a discussion about balancing family
and school life, and dealing with financial aid.
"I didn't have
the money for tuition" says Tatum, "but I went and signed up
anyway. When they saw I was serious, they helped me find a way."
Pat is now followed
by other GEAR UP parents who are going back to college, and leading
the way for the future of their children.
Parent to
Parent will be airing on January 8 & 15, February 5 &
26, March 12 & 26 at 7:30 on Channel 21, CAN TV.
