Where your research begins

The World Fact Book on Egypt
Excellent information about the culture and geography of modern Egypt.

The Wonders of Egypt
A great site that was made by kids.  It was a winning entry
in the ThinkQuest contest for the year 2000.

Timeline of Ancient Egypt
This simple timeline covers the 5,000 year history of Egypt in about 500 words. You know it
leaves out a lot but it is a good place to start, nevertheless.

Introducing Ancient Egypt
There are good sections here on the world of the Ancient Egyptians.

Mummies and The Afterlife  This is a site you will love.
It really gets you into the beliefs of the ancient Egyptians.

Mummies Unwrapped
This site doesn't tell only about Egyptian mummies but about mummies from all around the world.
It was a winning entry in the ThinkQuest contest for the year 2000.

Life in Ancient Egypt  A most attractive and thorough introduction to the ways of the Ancient
Egyptians, including their art, religion, daily life, ways of farming and making war.

The Monuments of Ancient Egypt
A clickable map allows you to "tour" the great monuments of Egypt via the web.

Mysteries of the Nile from the Public Television Series
This contains a tremendous amount about Egypt, including an interesting
re-creation of the raising of an Obelisk.

Ancient Egyptian Art
Twenty pages, each with 5 images which can be clicked to expand. Most of the art is in the form
of beautiful objects used by wealthy Egyptians in their daily life.

Myths and Fables of Ancient Egypt
Short and easy to read, these are interesting because they show you the beginnings of
some of our most many of our own favorite fairy stories,
Cinderella being one that began in Ancient Egypt.

A Hieroglyphics Maker which lets you put in a phrase and see what it would look like in Ancient
Egyption writing. You can even download a little program to translate names to hieroglypnics.

Ancient Nubia  This site tells about the ancient kingdom which lay just south of Ancient Egypt
and even ruled Egypt for a while.  The very fine site was put together by students
as part of the Thinkquest contest, a yearly contest among student web designers.
You could be part of that, too!

Treasures of King Tutankhamun
The most famous and perhaps the most beautiful archaeological discovery of the century.
This amazing find was the origin of most of the mummy movies that have ever been made.
