Wadsworth School Garden

Wadsworth is participating in the School Garden Initiative.  This program builds upon
Mayor Daley's School Park Program by creating gardens on school grounds to serve
as training and learning resources.  The Initiative is a unique opportunity for schools
and the surrounding community to achieve the following goals:

* Create hands-on, interdisciplinary learning opportunities for students and teachers;
* Provide urban children with meaningful connections to nature;
* Build a garden that will serve as a community focus, empowering parents and
   neighborhood residents to become an important, creative part of the school.

A school garden links classroom learning with the creation, maintenance, and study of
a garden.  The type of garden, its size, shape, material composition and symbolism can
become part of the school's image and the community's sense of place.  Through this
process, schools will develop a vision for their garden's development that will provide
meaning for students, their families, the community, faculty and the curriculum.

Collaborating organizations on the School Garden Initiative are:
* City of Chicago, Department of Planning and Development
* Chicago Botanic Garden
* Chicago Park District
* Chicago Public Schools
* Garfield Park Conservatory Alliance
* Openlands Project

The leadership team of the Wadsworth Garden is comprised of the following individuals:
Anna Johnson, Velma Jordan, Janelle Harper, and Michelle Warden.
