Introduction to CEP Mini-WIT

What is the CEP Mini-WIT?

The Council for Educational Partnerships is sponsoring this one-week version of the Web Institute for Teachers, a program that normally meets for 80 hours but will be compressed (hence the "mini") into 30 hours. These 30 initial hours will be supplemented by three follow-up sessions (to be scheduled) and an ongoing list-serve providing technical support and advice on implementing the products produced during the mini-WIT.

Mini-WIT will run from Monday, June 19 through Friday, June 23, from 9 am to 4 pm.

Participants will be divided into two sections, one called "Basic" and one called "Advanced." These labels are somewhat misleading.

The Basic section will focus on searching for and using existing materials on the web, and some introductory web-page editing. Participants will create personal web page that includes a list of useful web sites for their area of teaching interest, and also will create one or more web-based lesson plans that will incorporate some of these web sites. The basic section will presume no prior internet experience. See Basic page for more about this strand.

The Advanced section will focus on the creation of a complete curriculum web, which is a web site that supports a sustained process of teaching and learning. The curriculum web will include links to appropriate existing web sites as well as a complete teaching guide for the curiculum unit. The advanced section assumes prior use of the Internet. See the Advanced page for more about this strand.

What will you learn, and how?

The aim of WIT Basic is to provide teachers with the confidence and necessary computer skills to integrate Internet resources and applications into lesson planning and classroom activities in order to meet curricular goals.

The aim of WIT Advanced is to provide teachers with the training and experiences necessary for them to be able to design, create, and use web-enhanced curriculum modules with their students.

All learning will be HANDS-ON in computer labs. Each strand will follow a planned sequence of learning modules, available on the web, with instruction and support as needed by the mentors. Because the modules are on-line, you can return to them whenever you wish and review or re-learn, or you can look ahead at what you'll be doing later in the program

For more information about the Web Institute for Teachers curriculum, see the WIT Curriculum Guide.

Who will teach you?

WIT "mentors" are trained, experienced educators who have created and used web-based lesson plans and curriculum webs with other adults and with students. All WIT mentors have previously been learners in WIT programs.
