I. Teaching Guide

Aim:  The goal of this module is to introduce the different ways in which graphics can be added to a web site. The purpose is to become familiar with basic graphics principles, programs, terminology, and activities in order that participants be able to learn how to enhance their web pages.

Rationale: Participants who intend to create web pages need basic skills and knowledge of graphics. Graphics enhance a web site and are one of the basic components of learning web design. They are also useful for visual learners and make browsing and searching easier for those using the internet.

Audience:  Participants who need to learn basic skills and knowledge about graphics.

Objectives:  After completing the module, participants should be able to:

  • identify different ways in which graphics can be added to a web site. 
  • distinguish between the different WWW image file formats.
  • locate on-line images that are most suitable for their needs.
  • learn how various on-line activities can be used as a resource for learning how to use graphics.
  • use and evaluate different graphics sites.
Prerequisites: Basic browser skills. 

Materials: Computer, browser, internet access. 

Goals: The goal of the graphics module is to introduce students to different types of  graphics, on-line graphics resources and tutorials.  In addition, the aim is to guide participants in how to use and edit graphics on their web pages. 

Teaching Plan: This module is intended as a guide for mentors to guide and direct the students individually.  It is created as a self guided tutorial with links to activities that can be done independently or with some guidance by the mentor.  Participants should be given an explanation of graphics and guided through tutorials and activities as well as directed to the various graphics resources available on the internet.

Assessment of this workshop: Assessment of this workshop will be based on the following:

Demonstrated ability of the student to find graphics suitable to his or her needs and to insert them into their web page and edit them using either a link to a tutorial or some of the activities that are provided in this module.
