Scavenger Hunts

A basic definition of a scavenger hunt would be an activity that directs you to use a list of links to URLs where answers to a list of questions are to be found.  Filamentality has similar activities which it calls Treasure Hunts.

There are two primary types which are created on a downloadable worksheet template found on the Spartanburg District 3 County Schools, South Carolina website.  In one type, the teacher inserts a question to be answered, the name of the search engine to be used, and the keywords to use in the search process.  Learners use the keywords to search for the answers.  URLs are recorded, with a brief description of sites, and of any answers found. For the second primary type, students are given a list of questions to answer and and a link to the URLs of  websites that will answer the questions.

First Activities:

Enrichment Activities:
  • Read the page How to Create Scavenger Hunts.
  • Examine the Spartanburg Scavenger Hunt template
  • If you have not already, examine Filamentality's Treasure Hunts , with attention to the use of a list of detail oriented questions and answers which help learners answer a larger (more general) question.
