Buckingham Fountain is, according to some Chicagoans,
the largest and best fountain in
the world. It probably isn't, but who needs an argument on this
point? Any Chicagoan will
mention Buckingham Fountain with reverent tones usually reserved for descriptions
of he
Vatican, the White House, or Buckingham Palace.

The fountain operates daily from May 1 to September 30, 11:30 a.m. to 10
p.m. with
major, no-holds barred, challenge-the-rainbows color displays from 9 to
10 p.m. For many
years, the display was hand operated from a control station beneath the
fountain. Now it's
all done by computers, but it's still something to see. As a matter of
fact, the fountain is
so beloved by Chicagoans that it is safe to say you haven't really visited
Chicago until you
have looked at it at least once.
