ARTS AND ENTERTAINMENT IN ATHENS

Athens offers a variety of fun things to do, from visiting museums, monuments, and archeological sites to attending theaters and indoor and outdoor sports. Let's experience some of those choices together. First we'll stop at  the National Archeological Museum of Athens, which is considered one of the most interesting and archeologically important museums in the world.

Let's continue our tour with a stop at Sintagma Square. Here, we can see the monument of "The Unknown Soldier". You will notice that the guard next to the monument is dressed in the traditional uniform of "Tsolias". Sintagma Square was Athens most popular "platia" (square), before Omonia Square became more important because of its commercialization. "Sintagma" is the Greek word for constitution and "omonia" the Greek word for "piece". Despite its reduced importance, Syntagma Square still hosts the celebration of every major event in Greece's history.

What's after that? Of course a visit at the "Acropolis", the most popular landmark in Athens. The main sites on the Acropolis hill are the Parthenon, an ancient temple in honor of Goddess Athena, and Erecthion, the place where Poseidon and Athena had their contest over who would be the patron of the city.

Enough sightseeing? Let's get a taste of sports in Athens. Attica's landscape is very mountainous and rocky and perfect for rock climbing and mountain biking; but if you prefer cold weather sports,  you can go for skiing on Parnassos, a great ski resort in the outskirts of Athens.
