Plate Tectonics - Plate tectonics is the idea that the Earth's surface is made up of large "plates" of rock that have gradually moved and shifted over time.

  Look at the first picture.  This is what the Earth looks like now.  Look at the second picture.  It shows how  scientists think the Earth changed over time.
