Students are introduced to
Etta Moten Barnett's biography on The HistoryMakers website. Students
then work in groups to research various topics relating to Barnett on the
Internet.
Objectives
Students should:

Procedure

After students view the pictures
of Barnett, have them dicuss what they infer about Barnett based upon the
pictures.

Provide students with information
not included in the biography:

during the early 1900's.

Her parents were educated, prominent
citizens.

Her father was a minister with
the African Methodist
Espiscopal Church.

She sang with the church's choir
as a child.

She attended the University
of Kansas despite being an African-American single mother (she divorced
her husband).

Group the students into teams.
