Click on the Vernon Jarrett picture above and listen to an excerpt about his life growing up in Paris, Tennessee.  Jarrett grew up at a time when Jim Crow laws were in effect.  Your task is to conduct a web quest to answer the following questions and learn as much as possible about the Jim Crow laws and their effect on society.
 

1.    Who was Jim Crow?
2.    What were Jim Crow laws?
3.    List some of the Jim Crow laws and indicate from what state the law is from.
4.    Why do you believe Jim Crow laws were enacted?
5.    Explain the Plessy vs. Ferguson decision.
6.    How did these laws influence human behavior and society (Blacks and Whites)?
7.    How does this time period relate to the American ideal of equality?
8.    Do you believe these laws still have an impact on society today?  Why or why not?
