ACTIVITY INSTRUCTIONS:

Click on the Vernon Jarrett picture above and listen to an excerpt about the Black Press and their impact on African-Americans in the South.  Your task is to conduct a web quest to gather as much information as you can about the Black Press during the 1930s to the present.   I have not provided you with any links.  You will be conducting this search on your own.  You will answer the following questions and then develop any questions you might have regarding the Black Press.  A class discussion will follow.
 

1.    What role did the Black Press play in the lives of African-Americans during the 1930s through the Civil Rights
       Movement?

2.    What role does the Black Press play in the lives of African-Americans today?

3.    Do you believe it is necesssary to have a separate "Black Press"?  Why or why not?
