Black History Month

The History Makers

 

How did Black History Month get started and why?  After you have discussed this question, click on the above picture of Vernon Jarrett to hear the explanation and then answer the following questions.
 

1.    How is Black History Month celebrated in your school?

2.    How important is Black History Month to you?

3.    Is there a connection between the way you feel about it and the way it is celebrated in your school?

4.    How important do you think it is to Vernon Jarrett?  Why?

5.    Imagine that you are in charge of events planning for the yearly Black History Month celebration at your school.
       What ideas would you implement?

6.    Has this lesson inspired you to learn more about African-Americans who have contributed to our nation?
 

BE CREATIVE!  Now work with your school to implement your ideas.  Prepare a Black History Month celebration that you believe will be meaningful to you and your classmates.  Please remember to consider the impact of Black History on all Americans!
