Description

Students will continue to learn more about Vernon Jarrett's life and the obstacles he faced as an African-American growing up in the South.  They will click on the picture on the activity page and hear an exerpt from an interview conducted by The History Makers.  In the first exerpt Jarrett's talks about growing up in the Jim Crow South.   Students will learn about Jim Crow laws and their impact on African-Americans and society as a whole.  After an introduction of the subject by the teacher, students will begin their web research.

Objectives

Students should:

• Use the web to locate and print a list of Jim Crow laws
• Understand the impact of these laws at the time
• Examine the effects of Jim Crow laws on society today
• Practice persuasive writing
