Students will continue to learn more about Vernon Jarrett's life and the obstacles he faced as an African-American growing up in the South. They will click on the picture of Vernon Jarrett and hear him discuss the role of the Black Press in the history of African-Americans. Students conduct a second web search to answer questions about the Black Press.
Students should:
1. Make
sure you know how to search the web efficiently and then teach your students
to do the same. The following
link can help you become an expert web researcher.
2. Provide
students with the names or copies of several African-American newspapers.
Click on the following link for
more information.
3. As students gather information, they must keep the assigned questions (Student Activity #5) in mind.
3. Give students a time limit for their search and ask them to begin.
4. A class discussion should follow.
