Students will click on the picture of Vernon Jarrett on the activity page to learn about the origins of Negro History Week and Black History Month. Students will discuss Black History month as it exists today and begin creating projects for a Black History Month celebration.
Students should:
1. Ask students if they know how Black History Month got started and why?
2. Proceed with a discussion.
3. Share
with the class an old history textbook with very little information or
misinformation about the African-American
contribution to our nation.
4. Have students click on the picture of Vernon Jarrett to hear his discussion of the issue.
5. Have students focus on the following questions about Black History Month:
