Pre-planning is essential for this activity
Your primary students will be working with children chosen from the upper grades, to develop a rap song. This type of activity can involve a host of activities that cross many curricular areas Once groupings have been determined, focus on the task at hand. Begin by reading, Red Riding Hood to the whole class in a read aloud format . Don't assume that your older students remember major points in this folk tale. Make sure that they are active listeners during this time. On the board, or overhead, write the title of the rap, Little
Red in the Hood. Explain the guidelines of writing and
performing a rap song to the whole class. Brainstorm ideas to be
used in the song including rhyme and rhythm. The first sentence
of the song should be done as a whole group. Break students up and
watch the fun begin! Once the activity is completed (and this
may take awhile), plan on taking your creation on a tour through the school.
