Cinderella

A classic fairy tale with many multicultural
retellings

Folk and Fairy tales have always been a springboard for activities rich in cultural and literary merit.  Young students love the rich storytelling format that different versions of the story allows.  With folk and fairy tales, young students can make a connections to their own environment in creative thought provoking ways.

Within the framework of goals and objectives set forth by  state and local educational governing bodies, oral and written stories such as these allow for a multitude of interpretation, depending on:  point of view; country of origin; and culture. Teachers need not worry that curriculum requirements cannot be met.  The wealth of content fits well within the frameworks required  by mandates. Just remember: a literacy program includes a wide range of reading and writing experiences including: reading to children; reading with children; and reading by children.  Here is but a sampling of the different versions of "Cinderella" with suggested activities.
