he secret to a successful quest for information on the Internet is knowing how to search.
Before you ride off to slay the research dragon, you must make a plan so you know which direction you're riding!  You will probably change direction several times, and you will probably find information you can use down each path you take, so be brave young knight & search on.

Before you leave on your quest,  here are a few basics every web wiz needs to know. Click on the Wizard to see what the FBI has to say about Internet safety.(And there's a lot of other cool info on the FBI site to check out when you have some time!)

HOT TIP: Use your browser's back button to return to this page. "Back" also works when you use a link from one web page to another.

This is a web browser toolbar. You can almost always go back to the last page you viewed by clicking on Back. Sometimes a web site opens a whole new window on top of the window you're working in.  When that happens the Back button won't work. You will have to click on the "X" button in the top right corner of your screen when you need to close a window.

When you have a specific URL (web site address) you want to use, that's when you type in the address box. As you see here, it's called "Location" in Netscape. Some programs call this the "Address."
