Having A Whale Of A Time TOC

Name __________________________________

Whales don't just swim in the water, they have a "whale of a time" doing other things too. They do sounding (deep diving), breaching (jumping out of the water and crashing on the surface), spyhopping (sticking their head out of the water to look around),flippering (lying on their side and slapping the water's surface with their flipper), sailing (raising their tail flukes from the water, setting them perpendicular to a strong wind, and using their tail flukes like a sail), lobtailing (slapping the water's surface with their tail flukes), and spouting (coming to the surface of the water and exhaling air).

Write the boldfaced word that describes what each whale is doing.

Challenge! Write the name of the whale activity you think would be the most fun. Tell why you think so.
