Inserting Images...Part 2
| |
What You'll Learn in this Section
You're going to save an image to your hard drive,
then insert that very same image into your web page! Without further
ado, let's begin.
| |
| |
Saving Images from the Internet
| |
Although you could spend hours searching for just
the right image to go with your web page, I took the liberty of
corralling all of the images you'll need right here.
| |
Image #1
| |

(This cool kitty comes from Microsoft Publisher.)
| |
Image #2
| |

(This photo is of Velma Jordan's class and co-workers,
the 2001 Wadsworth Technology Contest winners at Wadsworth School.
The photo belongs to Mrs. Jordan.)
NOTE: It is okay to put student pictures on the
web, provided you are not putting them onto an official CPS-sponsored
server (in which case you need to get the students' parents' permission)
and provided you do not have their names listed with the picture.

1. This differs slightly for PC and Mac
users, so pay attention. Let's save the image of the cat first. |
| |
PC Users: Right-click on top of the image
you want to save. A window pops up that looks like this.
| |
| |
Mac Users: Simply hold down your mouse
button on the image you want to save. If you hold it long enough
a window should pop up.
| |
2. Both PC and Mac: Click on "Save
Image As." A window should appear which allows you to choose
where you want to save the image and what to name the image. It looks
like this. |
PC

| |
Mac

| |
You're going to save this image to your desktop
in the folder named after you.
| |
| |
3. PC: Click on the down arrow next
to "Save in:" and select "Desktop." |
| |
| |
Mac: The Apple defaults to the Desktop,
so you don't have to select anything. However, if Desktop is not selected,
simply hit the "Desktop" button
to the right. If you see your name at the top of the Save As window,
then it means that's where you're going to save the image, which is
exactly what you want to do. |
4. Both PC and Mac: If you selected
the Desktop, then you're going to have to scroll up or down, find
the folder named after you, and then double-click it. Everything's
about you, isn't it? Always about you! Why don't you try to think
about someone else for a change? The folder should have opened and
you should see the "home.htm" file you created before. |
| |
This is what it looks like on a PC.

| |
7. Both PC and Mac: Change the name
of the file to "chalkboard" by highlighting "cat"
and typing in "chalkboard." You can rename an image anything
you want if it helps you organize your web page. |
| |
| |
8. Both PC and Mac: After naming
the image, click on "Save." The image should now be saved
to your Desktop in a folder named after the only person you truly
care about, yourself. |
| |
Now repeat these steps and save the classroom
image to your computer as well.
| |
