Inserting Links (and Building a Navigation Bar)

What You'll Learn in this Section

Now that you've had a crash course in what links are, let's hop to it and start inserting them into your web page.

Not so Fast Partner. We've Got to Have Something to Apply Those Links To.

Just like any well-adjusted (read: conniving) teacher, I've managed to insert a review of material previously covered without you realizing it. Of course, by my telling you this now, it kind of defeats the purpose. Oh, well, you're going to do it and you're going to like it.

What I want you to do is build a Navigation Bar like the one below, then we can apply links to it.

  1. Create a table with 2 rows and 5 columns. Click here if you want to refer back to the section about inserting tables.
  2. Make the table width 750 pixels. Click here if you need help with doing this.
  3. Type a different title into the cells for each new page you want to create.
  4. Change the font color, size, and style until it looks the way you want it to. Click here if you need help with this. Mine looks like this.

4. Change the background color of each cell. This will help identify the pages for you and whomever visits your web site. Click here if you need help with this. This is what my table looks like.

  5. Add a caption. To do this, click on the "Insert Table" button on the toolbar. Make sure the "Table" tab is in front. Next, click in the circle to the left of "Include caption," then select "Below table."

Fill in the caption with pertinent school information, including your email address which we will get to a little later.

Mine looks like this.

Okay, I think you're ready for links now. Really, was that so bad? Did you have to throw that temper tantrum? Don't you feel silly?
