Are you new to e-mail? If so, start with our self-guided Tutorial. Here you will learn how set up your e-mail account, send messages, read incoming messages, and personalize your account using Netscape Messenger.
Once you have completed the tutorial, move on to the Activities section. Here you can apply what you learn by signing up for a mailing list, e-mailing your friends, and reading messages others have sent you.
Now that you have mastered e-mail, explore other On-Line Resources to personalize your e-mails with smiley faces :), popular e-mail lingo (e.g. LOL for laughing out loud), or simply look up those ambiguous "technical" words.
If you are a teacher and would like to use this module with your class, visit the Teacher's Guide for instructional hints.
| NOTE to be ignored by the non-adventurous: CUIP has recently installed a web interface to IMAP through IMHO at http://cuip.uchicago.edu:1080/mail (or just go to http://cuip.uchicago.edu/mail and be redirected). This is as an alternative to Pine, since like Pine it connects to the IMAP (instead of POP) service, and shows the same storage mailboxes as under Pine. Using this should be viewed as analogous to using an account on hoTMaiL, Yahoo mail, etc, rather than like a web mail that picks up your external POP mail. Check it out!!! You may never use Netscape Messenger again, especially in a public lab or any place where you have access to a browser. |
