You should have successfully completed either the Dreamweaver or Composer modules before using this module.
The WIT Teaching Guide Template will get you started with creating a teaching guide for your curriculum or lesson plan. This page will show you how. If you want to print a handout of this lesson, click here.
These instructions are aimed at Dreamweaver. You can, however, do the same things in Composer. Ask your mentor if you need help.
Open the WIT Teaching Guide Template.
You will first open the WIT Teaching Guide Template. This will open into a second Netscape Navigator window. Then return here.
OPTIONAL: Click "File|Save as...." in the template window. Save it into the local root folder of your Dreamweaver site. If you don't know how to do this, follow these directions:
Open a new Dreamweaver page.
After opening the new Dreamweaver page, minimize the screen and return here.
Copy the template.
Copy the template in the second window by selecting all pressing the "Ctrl" and "A" keys at the same time (Mac users press the apple key rather than "Ctrl"). Once the template is highlighted, copy by pressing the "Ctrl" and "C" keys at the same time (Mac users press the apple key rather than "Ctrl").
Paste the template.
Paste the template into open Dreamweaver page by pressing the "Ctrl" and "V" keys at the same time (Mac users press the apple key rather than "Ctrl"). You now have a working template for your teaching guide.
Fill in the template.
Do not worry too much about what it looks like at this stage, just brainstorm your thoughts, and then go back later and clean things up. Use the plan, not as a finished document, but a work-in-progress, not to be competed until the web pages are done and you can really tell how it might be used in the classroom.
Save your teaching guide.
Be sure to save your teaching guide when you are done. We suggest saving it into your desktop folder while you're working on it.
Upload your teaching guide.
Use the Dreamweaver Site window to upload your teaching guide to the CUIP server.
Share your teaching guide.
After you've uploaded it to the server, show it to another participant in your homeroom. Talk about what excites you about the plan, and any uncertainties you have. Talking to other teachers while developing your curriculum plan will help you consider new approaches and perspectives, and will help your curriculum web to be useful to other teachers.
