LESSON PLANS

Books to read:

A Picture Book of Abraham Lincoln by David Adler
Young Abraham Lincoln - Log Cabin President by Andrew Woods

L.A.:  Reproduce paper for students in the shape of a stove pipe hat. Have students write a list of facts that they have learned about Abraham Lincoln on the hat.

In November, around election time, have a class election. Discuss with students the purpose of campaigning.  Have them make campaign posters and slogans. Hold an
election. Tally the votes and discuss why people voted for the students they chose.

BULLETIN BOARD: Hang posters of the presidents on a bulletin board. Have students write facts about the president on the shape of his head. Hang them on the
bulletin board.

SOCIAL STUDIES: Learn about the wars that these 2 presidents fought in (American Revolution, and Civil War).  Have students do a Venn diagram to compare and
contrast the 2 wars.

ART: Cut out a shape of George Washington's head, but save the paper that it was cut out from.  Have students weave red, white, and blue papers through a piece of
black paper.  Take the paper that the shape of George's head was cut out from, and glue it on top of the weaved paper.  The silhouette looks nice against the weaved
paper.
