"Hey, How'd You Get Here?"

Introduction: Did you know that there are "Black" people who live all over the world.  Many have been there for hundreds of years. They are citizens. This place is their home. How did they get their? Many people assume that all "Blacks" live in  just a few places in this vast  world.  History reveals African people  have left "Mother Africa one way or another.

Aim:
The purpose of this project is to have students discovery thru investigation that "Black" people are dispersed  throught the world and that they can expand their travels and find common ground with the citizens of that place.

Rationale:
 It is important for students to understand that "Black" people are globally located. The purpose of this project is intended to help strengthen and provide a broader scope about who, what, where, and why "Blacks" exist in our world.

Goals/Objectives:
The students will be expected to give a presentation that shows their uncoveries about  a "Black" population within a particular country. They will be required to explain the historical journey of a particular group along with the current status of this group of people. The students will be required to explain the culture: language, food, religion, and family values of this group of people.

Audience and pre-requisites:
 This curriculum is designed for intermediate grade students who are familiar with either world studies or geography. They should have an understanding of the place that they are uncovering in relation to its position geographically.

Subject-matter:
This project will deal with social studies: history, geography, and world studies language arts, and art.

Instructional Plan:
The students will choose from a list of countries representive of all seven continents with a "Black" population (teacher provided). They will gather information: language food, dress, religion, family values, work , etc.

Materials:
The materials needed are as follows: paper, pencil, display board, computer, books on various countries, lcd projector, transparencies, colored markers, pegs for display board, graphic organizer organizer (Inspiration program), magazines, chalkboard. The students have a choice of a power point presentation or a project display board with an expository paper.

Assessmnet and Evaluation:
The student will graded based upon their project and presentation(Oral/Powerpoint). They must include all the elements required in the Goalsection of this teacher guide.
