Saving Your Pages...
...and previewing them, too
There are two ways to save your documents: in HTML or Text-Only format. HTML
format is recommended, and is the default format for Netscape Composer.

HTML FORMAT

TEXT-ONLY FORMAT
|
| Saving in HTML format keeps all of your document's formatting
such as bold, italics, tables, images and links intact |
Saving in TEXT-ONLY format removes all HTML tags but
keeps all of your text intact |
Now that you have practiced typing in some text, it is time to save your work.
There are two basic ways to save your work:
- Click on the Save icon on the menu bar

- Click on File, then Save or Save As
- Note: If you click on save or save as before giving your page
a title, you will be prompted to do so with a message like the following.
Once you give the page a title, your page will be saved.
You may change your page title at any time by going to the Format
menu and selecting Page Title and Properties
Tip: Be very careful using the Save button!!
It is best to choose "Save As" so that you can check the file name
and the location that you are saving to. If you are saving to a disk, make sure
your "save in" location field shows the following: .
Also, be sure to check the file name to make sure
it is not the same as another file you have!
WRITE DOWN YOUR FILE NAME SO YOU DON'T FORGET IT!!!
Filename Tips:
- Type a short name that describes your page (for example, this page is saved
as "savingpages"
- Don't use spaces in your file name. If you do, the computer will automatically
add in an underscore_. If you do want space in between, try using underscores.
For example: my_web_page. Or, make it all one word: mywebpage. REMEMBER: people
visiting your site will have to put the URL in exactly, so make
it simple, especially for kids!
- Use all lower case letters
- For more information, visit the module on Files and Folders
**Note: For Macintosh users, be sure to manually type
in .html at the end of the file name if your creating application doesn't
automatically do this for you
Previewing Your Page
To see how your page will look in a browser after you save it, click the Browse
Button on the menu bar
This allows you to open a temporary file in the Navigator web browser that
you will then close to get back to your Composer page. Previewing your page
will only show you how it will look when published; it will not allow you to
edit your page
