Composer Module Teaching GuideAim:The aim of this module is to provide participants with the knowledge and basic skills they need in order to use Netscape Composer 7.0 successfully. If participants read and follow instructions and more importantly practice the activities assigned, they will be able to create web pages for educational use.Rationale:Technology is becoming increasingly present in our classrooms today. It is important to understand this technology and find ways to manipulate it for our individual classroom needs. By learning how to use software, such as Netscape Composer, teachers are able to develop class specific tasks, as well as possibly teach students how to create web pages! Netscape Composer is free and easy to use therefore making web development possible for just about everyone!Goals and Objectives:The ultimate goal is to give participants the basic skills they need to use Netscape Composer to design web pages. Some of the specific objectives participants will learn are
back to topAudience and Prerequisites:Anyone interested and willing to sit down and go through the tutorial. While intended for educators, the tutorial is basic enough for any audience, as well as simple enough for someone with little or no technology experience to navigateSubject Matter:This module is a tutorial on using Netscape Composer, version 7.0 Instructional Plan:This tutorial was designed to be self paced and is simple enough to allow participants to learn on their own. However, it will be beneficial to the learner to see some of the material demonstrated first by a mentor. It is estimated that this module will take approximately 4 hours to complete, based on the skill level of the user. It is recommended that the module be broken up into several days to allow time for practicing skills. The subject matter is placed in an order that is recommended, but not required. Each web page will lead participants to the next section, as well as contain a navigation table on the top to return to previous pages. Many of the topics have activities for participants to complete. It is the author's recommendation that mentors follow the plan below for each section:
back to topMaterials:A computer with Netscape Composer, version 7.0 installed on it. It is recommend that each participant also have their handbook, user name, and password with them while completing the tutorial. In order to publish web pages, participants must be connected to the Internet.Assessment:It is difficult to judge the success of the module, as it is providing information for a piece of software. The greatest measurement will be seeing participants include some of the features presented on their web pages, and seeing those pages uploaded (published) successfully.
