WIT 2003

Teaching Guide for Email Module

Aim
The aim of this module is to introduce the WIT/CUIP webmail and provide an overview of some of it's features.

Rationale
Some WIT participants don't have an alternate email service, and may need to use the WIT/CUIP webmail to keep up with WIT. Also, email is a good thing.

Audience
The 15% or so of WIT participants who intend to use WIT/CUIP webmail as their primary mail source.

Subject Matter

The WIT/CUIP webmail interface at http://webmail.cuip.net/

Materials
Computer with live internet connection and an internet browser. Also, participants must have their login names and passwords.

Instructional Plan
This module is intended to a be an overview to the basic operations of the WIT/CUIP webmail system for the handful of users who need to use it to keep up with their WIT, or for those who would rather their WIT mail be delivered to their WIT/CUIP account.

Time estimate: 0 - 45 minutes

If no one in your section needs to use the WIT/CUIP webmail then you may skip this module.

For beginners, a brief mentor presentation of the most basic features outlined on page one of the module may be most beneficial.

Key points to illustrate:

  1. The URL - webmail.cuip.net
  2. Reading messages in your inbox (click on the subject line)
  3. Composing Messages (click on the compse button)
  4. Logout (click on the nav bar)

While there are other features to webmail, they are not critical for the beginner WIT participant, and the more advanced participants will likely have enough experience with webmail systems to be able to experiment on their own.

Note: Some users may want to cancel the email forwarding that has been pre-set, please follow the supplemental directions included in the module. The participants will use SSH for this.

Assessment/Evaluation

The assessment will be to see if the user can read and reply to mail sent from the homeroom listserv.
