Using Fetch

Fetch is an FTP program which allows you to "fetch" documents from the server, as well as send them to the server.

    File Transfer Protocol (FTP): -- A very commonmethod of moving files between two Internet sites.  FTP is a special way to login to another Internet sitefor the purposes of retrieving and/or sending files.(source)

      To Access Fetch from a Mac:

  1. Click on the Apple Icon
  2. Click on "Internet Applications"
  3. Click on "Fetch" 
        Fill in cuip.uchicago.edu for the server
        Place your username in the field for your name
        Place your password in the field for password
        Place ~username/www in the Directory field
  1. Press ok

 

Click on the file you would like to delete and while holding down the mouse, drag it to the trash
 

*Once you are inside your directory through Fetch, you will see two buttons:  'put' and 'get':  put means to upload a file to the server (like publishing) and get will allow you to retrieve a document.
