Homeroom 6 - Agenda
1. Continue working in your groups.
-
Remember to continually update the "visual map" of your project pages so
everyone in your group will know where things are!
-
Begin filling in your curriculum guide.- Click
here for Craig's Curriculum Guide template. Click on several of the
menu items and notice what happens. When you click on Click here
to return to Menu, you are transported back to the menu. Targets
and links were created to allow this to happen. See below for detailed
directions for creating targets and links within your pages. If you
wish, you may copy Craig's template into a new blank page that will allow
you to fill in text where you want it: Click File - Click Edit
Page- Click Edit - Click Select All -Click Edit- Click Copy - Click File
- Click New Blank Page - Click Edit - Click Paste. Everything but the
background will show up on your page. You may add your own background
when you are ready. When you open Craig's page to edit, you will
see "target" symbols throughout the document. After publishing, the
targets are not visible. See #2 and #3 below for links to tutorials
on creating targets in your pages.
2. Using
the Editor in Netscape Navigator takes users through a tutorial on
creating links between web pages, within a web page, or to an e-mail address.
3. Another way of saying it: Directions
for creating links and targets: (the following
has been copied from this site)
To link text or an image with another page: highlight the text/image;
click on the Link button or go to Insert, Link. Type in the complete
URL (web address) of the link; click OK.
-
To link text or an image with an e-mail address: do the same as above but
type in "mailto:thename@wherever"; OK. Do not use the quotation marks;
do not add any spaces anywhere.
-
To link with another location on the same page (this is known as a target):
-
Place the cursor at the beginning of the target line. Click on the
target (bulls eye button) or choose Insert, Target (named anchor).
Type in a name for this target; OK. A bulls eye will appear in the
edit mode but will not appear in the browse mode.
-
Now, highlight the text or image that is to be linked to the target.
Click on the link button, then highlight the name of the target; OK.
-
Important hint: Put a target at the top of your page named "top of page."
At the end of a target within the document, link an image or line of text
such as "return to menu" so that the viewer can easily get back to where
he/she began.
-
Save file.
Remember: Pages should be designed with the viewer in mind.
Viewers prefer pages that load quickly, have images that say something
(if the image doesn't say anything, omit it!), and are easily navigable.
And, save your files frequently!
3. Search for helpful sites.
4. SAVE OFTEN!
5. COMMUNICATE WITH YOUR GROUP- before you publish,
check to make sure you are not overriding anything that someone else is
working on and publishing!
6. Refer, as necessary, to Introduction
to Netscape Composer.
7. Remember, publishing directions are found
under July 1 in the schedule.
