About
the Web Tank
Please
see copyright notice below..
The "web tank" is a database containing information
relevant to the development of web-based curriculum. You'll find information about
curriculum development, web design, use of computers in education, software, graphics,
various technologies, and examples of web-based curriculum.
The records in the database are called "webbits," meaning "bits of web." Most
records contain links to web pages where you can get more information about
the topic. You can either browse the Web Tank (moving sequentially from record
to record looking for what you want) or you can search the Tank. (Keep in mind
that the records are not in any logical order, but are placed in the tank randomly.
Therefore when you browse you'll move around from topic to topic.)
The most efficient way to search is to use "keywords" that have been assigned
based on the central idea contained in each webbit. You can also search by author,
title(s), publisher, citation, or text. The "text" search is the most comprehensive
and will result in the most "hits." But because a text search searches everything
in the database, you may also get "hits" which are less valuable than if you
search by keyword.
You may find searches on the following keywords especially valuable:
- resource (for records that might be helpful in developing specific curricula;
mainly subject-centered stuff)
- tools (any online tool for searching, etc.)
- list (any resource that contains lists of links)
- definition (any resource that provides one or more good definitions; give
the "term" defined also
- benefits (for benefits of using the web in instruction)
- pitfalls (like above)
- features (things about the web that are good for education)
- graphics (animations, bullets, backgrounds, images, and software to deal
with these)
- example (for any online web-based curriculum materials)
- issues (having to do with the use of the web in teaching and learning)
- steps (defining the steps in curriculum development)
- humor (for funny stuff about computers and the web)
