| First of all, you need to locate the FETCH software. It is probably located in the same folder as Netscape Communicator. That folder may be called Applications or Internet Applications. You may also search the hard drive: from the Finder, go to the FILE menu, then FIND, type Fetch. |
(1) Open the Fetch software.
(2) In the FILE menu, go to NEW CONNECTION. The following window will open:
Be sure to place YOUR username and password into the appropriate boxes. Also not that information for directory should read: /home/username/
The following window that opens is your personal home directory. It looks like the following:
There are a number of files and folders in your home directory. The important one for our purposes, however, is the www directory. Double-click that directory to open it; you will see all of the your files. These are the same files you see when you view your index in Navigator: http://cuip.uchicago.edu/~username/. All of the files in your www directory should have .htm, .gif, .jpg. or whatever suffix is necessary to describe the file.
Using Fetch, you may create new directories (in the DIRECTORIES menu), you may delete or rename files or directories (in the REMOTE menu), and you may publish (PUT) or retrieve (GET) files.
To publish an HTML file (e.g., a Netscape Composer file):
Click the PUT FILE button.
Choose the file you wish to publish. The following window will open:
Important: If the file is an HTML file, then leave the format as TEXT. BUT, if the file is an image (.gif, .jpg, etc.), then you need to choose RAW DATA. Press down on the TEXT bar, and a pull-down menu will open. Choose RAW DATA.
That is all. Happy FETCHING.
