Voices & Choices

Do you wonder how people lived a hundred years ago?

This page is to be a group activity.  You will need a copy of this page to finish the exercise.  Give the copy to the teacher after you have finished.  On the web page VOICES AND CHOICES are three picture tours of how three ordinary real people lived in that time.  Two lived in Chicago, and were considered newcomers.  The third lived in Springfield, which is the Illlinois State Capital.
Click to the web page and see how these people lived.  After you read each story, complete the table below about that person.
Carmella Gustaferre

Activity:  Discuss with your group the kinds of problems or decisions people might have to make in our time.  List some of these decisions, and  tell how they alike or different than the decisons made the people described above.

After you have finished the table,  you may want to go to Art in the Home  to learn about another decision someone wanted to make.
