Directions: This activity can be done using almost any
objects that are solid colors. Some examples are
unifix cubes, pattern blocks, crayons, and colored paper clips.
The teacher will demonstrate a pattern using
colored chalk on the blackboard. Then start another pattern and
ask students what color will be next.
Students will then work in small groups to create their own patterns
using the chosen objects. After
students become familiar with this process, additional colors can be
added to increase the complexity
of the pattern.
Evaluation: The small groups will create a pattern that
the rest of the class will have to identify and continue.
