Work smarter, not harder.
Objective: Review major concepts with drama (pantomine) and discussion.
Materials: index cards
Vocabulary: None
Preparation: Write out some action (work) situations on index
cards.
Ex. Ride your bike into a brick wall.
Pull a sled over snow.
Walk (street shoes) on an ice skating rink.
Skate on an ice skating rink.
Rub two pieces of coarse sandpaper together.
Lift a heavy box up a short flight of stairs.
Note: This statement can be a lead-in to the next lesson.
Activity: Have student volunteers act out the "work" on the index
cards. Classmates guess what the volunteer is doing using the vocabulary
and ideas to develop the concept. Note: The teacher may vary each
action.--Rub coarse sandpaper--Rub greased blocks, etc. Ask: What
is happening? Why is it happening?
Use the "lifting a heavy box" index card last. Discuss possible
ways of getting that box up the stairs, etc. How can we make the
work easier?
Closure: (Optional:) Say, Next week (tomorrow) we"ll explore
simple machines that help make our work easier.
