The Coastal Cities and Towns

The Mediterranean Coastal Cities are comprised of the cities and towns which run from Akko in the north to Tel Aviv in the south.Other well-known cities along the coast are Jaffa, Netanya, Herzliah, and Caesaria.

Tel Aviv

A predominantly modern city, Tel Aviv was established as a settlement in 1909. Tel Aviv is now a bustling city with a population of two million people.  The location of about 50 percent of Israel's industrial plants in  Tel Aviv makes it the country's principal manufacturing center. Industries include textiles, chemicals, metals and engineering  products, vehicles, electric and electronic equipment, high tech,  furniture and wood products, food and tobacco processing,  diamond polishing, and printing and publishing. The Tel Aviv  stock exchange is Israel's only such institution, and most  banks, insurance companies, and other large corporations are  headquartered there.Tel Aviv is the home of Bar-Ilan  University and Tel Aviv University, as well as of the Israeli  national theater, Habimah,  the Israel Philharmonic, Tel Aviv Museum, Ha'aretz Museum, the Museum of the  Diaspora.

Activity: (This activity is appropriate for 6th - 8th graders.)  Let's learn about the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange. First watch a video which shows an Overview .(You must have Real Player downloaded onto your computer to watch this video.)
    1.Have each student research several stocks which they feel will be successful. Create a spreadsheet in which your class can track those stocks on a daily, monthly, yearly basis.
    2. Create a spreadsheet to compare the currency exchange rates of the currency of different countries with our US dollar.

Haifa
     Haifa is Israel's third largest city. Situated in a broad natural bay between the beautiful Mediterranean Sea and the awe - inspiring Carmel mountain, the city's terraced landscape offers a rich variety of breathtaking panoramas.

Activity: Learn about the Israeli sports teams. Begin with Maccabi Haifa, Israel's premier soccer team (called football in Israel!), which was founded in 1919.  How many championships have they won? Who are the players? What other sports teams play in Israel? What is the history of Israeli sports?

Netanya
Netanya, capital of the "Sharon" district, is located close to the seashores of the Mediteranean Sea.Netanya has become a center for tourists as well as for industrial development.
