    Aim The aim of this Internet curriculum-based instructional guide is to equip       teachers/educator with the necessary training and resources to implement, maintain, and manage a successful Web site.

Objectives Upon successful completion of this unit, the teacher/educator will:
 
  • create and design a simple web page
  • surf the Internet to locate resources that can be used to compile engaging, interactive lesson plans
  • list at least five search engines/directories and identify
  • the pros/cons of using each one
  • locate free graphics and create multimedia that can be incorporated into a web page
Rational As we approach the new millenium, with the cyberspace and the information highway, awareness throughout the universe, and the fact that the Internet will be installed in classrooms across the U. S. more and more teachers/educators will be faced with the challenge to train students and staff in technology.   If the teacher is not a technology-trained teacher/educator, he/she will need resources in order to implement a successful Web site.  This guide is designed to enable teachers/educators to obtain useful, exciting, innova-
tive strategies to integrate the Internet into their curriculum.

Audience Teachers/educators, administrators, and anyone interested in integrating the Internet into the curriculum.

Prerequisities
  • basic computer literacy 
  • knowledge of search engines (recommended but not required)
  • knowledge of word processing software
Description of 
Subject Matter		 Basic Internet terminology, strategies for creating simple web pages using Netscape Composer, techniques for locating free graphics/multimedia, methods for obtaining information 
from the Internet using search engines/directories.

Instructional 
Plan
 A comprehensive approach to enable teachers/educators to obtain knowledge/expertise in creating simple web pages.  Teachers will use various search engines/directories to surf 
the Internet, do online tutorials, and integrate the Internet 
into their curriculum.

Standards
 Connections to the Illinois State Board of Education Standards and the Chicago Public School  Standards
Materials
 Must have an Internet-supported computer, diskettes, texts, and lots of  patience......

Evaluation/
Assessment
 Publication of successful web pages that incorporate the elements outlined in the modules, e.g., inserting graphics/multimedia, tables, links; online assessments of  surfing skills and lesson plans
