Making Your Own Pizza
Cooking and baking are fun because you can eat what YOU decide. They are also fun because making any recipe is like both an experiment and a work of art.

Basic Pizza Dough

Pizza Dough is made like bread dough and it have to rise.  The dough is ready for use in 25 minutes.

Ingredients:

l cup warm water
l pkg.active dry yeast
l teaspoon sugar
l teaspoon salt
l tablespoon oil
2 to 3 cups all purpose or whole wheat flour

How to put it together:

Use thermometer to check temperature of warm water.  The temperature should be l00°F. to ll0°F.
Add yeast to water and stir.
Add the sugar, salt, and oil to water and stir well after each addition.
Add flour to bowl in small amounts and stir.  Addd just enough flour so that the dough is not sticking in clumps to your hands or the bowl.
Using your hands, knead dough for two to three minutes on a lightly floured surface.
Let the dough rest for 5 to 10 minutes before using.
Roll out dough and place on pizza pan.
Preheat oven to 450 degrees.

Creating your own pizza from the plants in your garden:

To make your tomato sauce, you will need

a stove top burner, hot plate
a pot
a wooden spoon
3 tablespoon Olive Oil
3 cloves Garlic
2 Onions
2 1/2 lbs. Tomatoes
1 tablespoon Oregano
3 tablespoon Basil
2 red or green peppers
1 teaspoon Salt
1/2 teaspoon Black Pepper
1 table Sugar (additional to taste)

Cut tomatoes, onions and garlic into separate piles, put aside. Heat oil in pot add garlic and onions. Cook on medium heat until onions are clear, about 3 minutes, stir to avoid burning. Add tomatoes and peppers cook for 15 until sauce thickens. Add Basil and Oregano and cook 7 minutes. Taste. Add salt, pepper and sugar to taste (until you like it). Let cool and top the uncooked pizza.

At this point you can add tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese and parmesan cheese as toppings.  You can also sprinkle basil on top of the pizza.  Base your pizza until brown and crusty at 450°F.

Othe possibilities are the addition of: Garlic, Tomato, Peppers (green, red, or yellow), Oregano, Onion (green or white), Basil, Mushrooms, and anything else you imagine would taste good.

Eating your pizza:

Take time to share your piza with fellow classmates.  Set a table with cloth or placemats.  Enjoy eating your pizza in pleasant relaxing surroundings.  If you wish,  you could plan to invite members of the school community or surrounding community.
