The aim of the Rationalizers curriculum module is to supply lessons that will strenghten students ability to demonstrate and apply an understanding of mathematics involving rational numbers expressed as fractions, decimals, and percents.
 
 

Often, students have a difficult time understanding that fractions, decimals, and percents represent essentially the same thing.  We plan to create a module that addresses that issue.
 
 

The Rationalizers curriculum module was designed to be used with primary and intermediate mathematics students and teachers.  Also it can be used by upper-grade students and teachers when a refresher is needed.
 
 

The goal of the Rationalizers curriculum module is to strenghten the students abilities in understanding the different ways to express rational numbers.
 
 

• Students will be able to read and express rational numbers using fractions, decimals, and percents.
• Students will be able to compare rational numbers expressed in different ways.
• Students will reinforce prior knowledge about rational numbers

Students should have a solid understanding of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of whole.  Students should be introduced to the idea that whole numbers have parts.
 
 

This module should be used along with teacher-led instruction using fraction bars and decimal cubes.  The online activities can be completed by students seperately or in groups, but need not be completed by the whole class at one time.
 
 

• A computer with Internet access
• A printer
• Worksheets (these may be printed from the student's activities section of the module)
• Fraction Bars and Decimal Cubes

• Writing piece describing the Rationalizers
• Poem piece highligthing the Rationalizers
• Art piece depicting the Rationalizers
• Performance-based group assessment
• Individual Assessment (Quiz)

This module will be evaluated by how well students perform on the above assessments as well as the rational numbers components of standardized tests.  In addition, user feedback is crucial for evaluating the effectiveness of the module.  So please, Email us!
