Rationalizer's
Curriculum Guide
Aim
The aim of the Rationalizers curriculum module is to supply
lessons that will strenghten students ability to demonstrate and apply
an understanding of mathematics involving rational numbers expressed as
fractions, decimals, and percents.
Rationale
Often, students have a difficult time understanding that
fractions, decimals, and percents represent essentially the same thing.
We plan to create a module that addresses that issue.
Audience
The Rationalizers curriculum module was designed to be
used with primary and intermediate mathematics students and teachers.
Also it can be used by upper-grade students and teachers when a refresher
is needed.
Goal
The goal of the Rationalizers curriculum module is to
strenghten the students abilities in understanding the different ways to
express rational numbers.
Objectives
Students should have a solid understanding
of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of whole.
Students should be introduced to the idea that whole numbers have parts.
Instructional Plan
This module should be used along with teacher-led instruction
using fraction bars and decimal cubes. The online activities can
be completed by students seperately or in groups, but need not be completed
by the whole class at one time.
Materials
Assessment
(teachers may copy any of the
following for their class)
Evaluation
This module will be evaluated by how well students perform on the above assessments as well as the rational numbers components of standardized tests. In addition, user feedback is crucial for evaluating the effectiveness of the module. So please, Email us!
