Renewable resources have been identified as those which recycle, reproduce, or regenerate.. These include agricultural crops, animal forage, forest crops, and wild and domestic animals. Water and air are also considered renewable resources.
Nonrenewable resources have been identified as those resources which have a recycle time that is so long, it is unreasonable to expect them to be regenerated in several hundred lifetimes or generations. These include minerals such as fossil fuels which include energy producing elements such as coal, petroleum, or natural gas. Nuclear fuels are also used for the production of heat energy. Other nonrenewable resources include minerals such as iron and aluminum, and precious metals. Use the links below to find the approximate recycle times of each of the elements listed below. Also, identify factors effecting the regeneration process. Use the Response Form included with the lesson to record your responses.

Minerals This includes elements which are mined from the earth such as iron, aluminum, and copper. Precious metals such as gold and silver are also included. These occur in different concentrations around the world. Consider mankind's use of these elements in your discussion. What does this mean in terms of their "cycling time". |
