For The Teacher. . . . |

"Water, Water. . .Everywhere?" is an interactive unit which incorporates the use of on-line and traditional media to assist the student in their study and understanding of Water Conservation and Water Pollution. Students will cover four areas, Natural Resources, The Water Cycle, Water Conservation, and Water Pollution. After successful completion of the lessons, students will work on a collaborative project in which they will use what they have learned to discuss and design a solution for a local water pollution problem, The Zebra Mussel.
Each lesson is designed to accomodate students at three learning levels -- K through 2, 3rd through 5th, and 6th through 8th. The student has the option of starting at any level or starting at the easier level and working their way up to the more complex material. This is so designed to accomodate special need students or those in need of remediation. Students at higher levels who require more challenging activities, can start at the higher levels. Each section is given a name instead of a grade specification so that students will be comfortable selecting an appropriate learning level. The activities at each level will be the same, only the content change. This will provide opportunities to practice the computer/internet skills introduced. Each will include a glossary of terms specific to that lesson and level of proficiency. Upon successful completion of the unit, the student will be inducted into the Eco-Rangers Hall of Fame. With parental permission, their photo, a short summary of their learning experience, and advice to future Rangers will be posted in the Ranger Hall of Fame Gallery.

Students will be presented with an interactive, on-line Power Point presentation that discusses the sources and uses of water. This presentation will have links that will provide additional information in the form of explanations, images, and correlations to real life topics and situations. Since students at this level are just beginning to read, this portion will be graphics intensive. At the completion of the activity, the student will be presented with an online form upon which they will be able to respond to specific questions by selecting the correct answer, classifying, or similar activity. Addiionally, the student will learn and practice using the mouse to link to locations within the site and returning to the starting point. |
