When you came into the office this morning the secretary placed a very important message on the middle of your desk. Ricky Lake, the talk show host, called. She invited you to be a consultant on her show to assist her in determining the outcome of the show ,"Which guy is the father of my baby?." You have been asked to examine the facts from the second guest, Wanda Wanders.
Here is how Wanda described her situation. Wanda
stated that she has two kids. The first child’s father is not an issue.
However, the second child’s biological father is not settled. During the
pregnancy of the last child, Wanda was married. She is now divorced and
living with her boyfriend, Martin.
Because Wanda was still married when her last child
was born, that child was legally considered the child of her husband. Her
ex-husband, Gary, was not aware of Wanda’s extramarital relationship during
the last year of their marriage. Gary has been paying child support for
Wanda’s second child since the divorce was finalized.
The identity of the second child’s father has recently
become an issue because of the influence of Wanda’s ex-husband’s fiancé,
Lolita. Lolita does not believe that Gary, Wanda’s ex-husband and her future
husband, is the biological father of the baby. Since Lolita was once a
good friend of Wanda’s, she knows that Wanda was having an affair with
her present boyfriend during the last year of her marriage. However, Gary
has been paying child support to Wanda for the child since the divorce
was finalized two years ago. Lolita wanted Gary to go on the Ricky Lake
Show to prove that he is not the father of Wanda’s child.
Lolita feels that Martin should pay child support and not Gary.
